Photos – Golden Gate Bridge

While I have lived the majority of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area I never walked the bridge until just recently. I went with a group of friends on the day after Thanksgiving. Generally everyone knows that when you head to SF or the bridge area you take a coat as it will be windy and possibly cold. Not that day! We all had our jackets off within perhaps 30 minutes. It was absolutely beautiful weather to do a 5 mile walk. And the bridge itself is truly a work of art.

foto friday…around town

Everyone lives in interesting places though some I think don’t really believe they do. I sometimes wish I lived on the East Coast where they have all those glorious old buildings with a ton of history attached to them. But I don’t. I live on the West Coast where things are a bit newer. But not far from town there will be old barns and vineyards or ranches. And in town there are new buildings and new buildings built to look old. I looked at these photos this morning and realize that I really need to get out and take some more to really show the different styles and colors we have here. But until then, well this is what I have.

friday fotos – fences

There are some things I just love to photograph. Fences is (or is it are?) just one of them. Perhaps one reason is that I am trying to recreate a photo my father did many years ago of a fence. Actually I think that I have surpassed his fence photo by now but probably only because I have the advantage of digital while he only had the film option. No matter…I still love old fences.

foto friday – fog

I love fog. Yes, I know it can sometimes be depressing but it can also be pretty beautiful. And while many think the fog gets in the way of some great photography I think it can make for some pretty spectacular photos. And no I know mine are certainly not the greatest but what the heck…these are actually some of my favorite ones.

foto friday – wine!

Yep, I live in wine country. All around this are there are vineyards of different kinds of grapes. There are vineyards everywhere…both large and small. Crush season has just begun for at least one kind of grape so I thought it would be appropriate to show some photos of grapes and leaves.  Oh, don’t worry there will be more actual vineyards at a later date.  and please don’t ask what kinds of grapes they are…I like wine but don’t know the first thing about it!

foto friday…hiking

A few weeks ago my hiking group did one of our long major hikes. It was actually a bit more strenuous than any of us expected but we all agreed that it truly was beautiful. It was pretty amazing the different terrains that we ended up going through, though unfortunately I wasn’t necessarily thinking of that at the time. Which means that there were many photos I should have taken but didn’t.  This trail, about 6 miles round trip took us up to the top of a  hill. We went through some marsh area, some open meadows and the redwood forest. All beautiful in their own ways. Yes, it was a bit foggy that day but living in this beautiful area we are used to that. It just mean that for that day I could not get the one photo showing how close to the ocean we were.

Ok…I know it is not Friday but I thought that since I am not going to be here that I would post my Friday photos early. I’m really trying to get into the swing of this and get some sort continuity going. Who knows if that is good or not but we shall eventually figure it all out.

Anyway one of my first photo posts was about the local high school. There are many murals and such there and I had a wonderful time one Saturday wandering around the school. I must say there are some pretty creative kids that go there. Hope you enjoy!

Photo Challenge – Growth

I thought about this quite a bit…first do I really want to do a photo challenge with so many wonderful photographers out there. And I realized that, yes, I do want to do it. I am doing it for me and really no one else. I think it will help me in my photography…or at least I hope it will. We shall see.

The other thing I thought about was what is growth. I had some interesting ideas and in some ways wish I had gone with one of the other ideas. But I didn’t. Our small town has a community garden which I had never before been to. I stopped by there the other day with my camera and the gate was open. What a treasure trove it was. So these photos relating to growth were from that community garden.

I am not sure, however, how many photos are allowed in these challenges – or is there a limit?  I suppose I shall find out.  My goal is to enter all the upcoming photo challenges. Whether I make that goal or not we can only wait and see.

foto friday…round barn

This barn sits up on a hill above the town of Santa Rosa, CA. Surprisingly it is called “Round Barn”, perhaps because of its shape. According to history it was built in 1898. It is no longer used but everyone in the area is well aware of the Round Barn area and uses it as a landmark. A friend of mine and I spent an hour or so there one evening. I don’t think I do it justice and keep thinking I should return to perhaps capture the voice of the barn and surrounding area a bit better. Someday perhaps I will do just that, but for now these are what I have.

it’s a vicious circle…this blogging thing

Yes, I’m still new at this whole blogging thing. Ok, so I tried it twice before but I guess I never really took it seriously. This time for whatever reason I have taken it a bit more seriously and am actually…um…posting.

I guess in a way it is probably a good thing that I am currently unemployed. No my finances don’t like it but it most certainly gives me plenty of time to read other blogs.

Don’t get me wrong…I have been checking out blogs for many years. But in reality I don’t think I ever really took many of them seriously and I know for a fact that I have never “followed” someone’s blog before.

But as I open up WordPress the first thing I do is check out the freshly pressed posts. I end up reading pretty much all morning (it has now been almost 3.5 hours since I started reading today).  Then I go ahead and possibly post something on my little part of the world wide web (do we still call it that?) and almost immediately someone will “like” what I have done and of course I then have to go check that person’s blog. Oh…and of course while I’m doing that I also have to check the blogs those people follow as well as blogs from people that have commented. It is a vicious, vicious circle.

In fact I sat here this morning and was laughing so hard at something I was read, but within ten minutes of that was pretty much crying at the next post I was reading. And the photography…most of which I love…everyone has such different eyes and sees perhaps very similar things but yet so very differently and I find that pretty amazing.

How many blogs can one person follow?  I mean hopefully I will be working again soon which means I won’t have this much time to read all of the new posts from the blog I follow. What oh what is one to do?

And is one obligated to “follow” or “like” another person’s blog just because they decided to like your post or follow your blog?  Interestingly it seems that most of those people that have liked me (wow, people really like me??) are bloggers that, when looking at their blogs I find something interesting or in the case of photography beautiful. But really, what is the etiquette of a blogger?  Are you supposed to like or follow or comment all the time? I don’t know…I just don’t know…and am not sure there are enough hours in the day for me to continue to read, comment, like, and follow all that I want to be able to do.
